Bookkeeping: What If Something Doesn't Make Sense? | Do you need a little support, advice or training? | POSTED BY ALISON MEAD ON 31/12/2018 @ 8:00AM
You know when you are a bookkeeper or doing your books yourself, and something doesn't make sense? You can look as much as you like, but the numbers seem to be taunting you ...

Where do you go for help if you are in this situation? If you're a solo bookkeeper, or you run your own business and no one else will understand the problem? I've just got off the phone to one of the bookkeepers I mentor.
"She has just taken on a new job and has had a knock to her confidence!"
The same invoice had popped up twice on two different remittance advice notes, so they paid it twice. It was only for a fiver so not the end of the world, but she needed to know if she was going mad or if there really was a problem.
I spent just 15 minutes on the phone to her, checking out the transaction history and was able to prove that their automated system had added the same invoice twice, so she wasn't seeing double, there was a problem that needed sorting.
I've been able to support this bookkeeper with other similar problems, just by calmly listening to the problem, investigating it and coming up with an action plan while educating them on the best use of the system in the future.
So, if you are, or know, a bookkeeper that might need some support from time to time, just get in touch. It can be a simple call or some coaching that could enable you to sleep easy at night, keep your customers happy, and be a better bookkeeper.
"Would you like to know more?"
If you'd like to find out more about how I can mentor you with support, advice and bookkeeper training on Sage or Xero, do give me a call on 01604 420057 or click here to ping me an email and let's see how I can help you.
Until next time ...
