As bookkeepers, we are often the first port of call when clients hear about software price increases. If you've started hearing questions about Xero's latest pricing changes, now is a great opportunity to demonstrate your value by helping clients understand what the changes mean and how to make the most of their subscription ...

Get ready for changes to Xero pricing as of 1st September 2026

From the 1st September 2026, Xero's business plan prices will increase across its range. The Ignite plan will rise to £18 per month, Grow to £39, Comprehensive to £55 and Ultimate to £70. Whilst nobody enjoys paying more, it's worth remembering that software providers continually invest in improving security, reliability and new features.

Xero has introduced a good number of
enhancements over the past year!

For many small businesses, the monthly increase is unlikely to outweigh the time saved and efficiency gains from good cloud accounting software. However, that doesn't mean clients won't have questions.

Some may wonder whether they're on the right plan, while others may ask whether they're actually using the features they're paying for. These conversations offer an excellent opportunity for bookkeepers to review their clients' needs and ensure they're getting genuine value from their subscription.

If you're supporting clients who pay for their own Xero subscription, they'll receive direct communication from Xero about the changes.

Even so, a proactive message from you can make a real difference. Simply acknowledging the increase, reassuring clients that you're available to answer questions, and offering to review their current plan help reinforce the trusted adviser relationship you've worked hard to build.

It's also worth revisiting how your clients use Xero!

Are there features they've never explored? Could automation save them even more time? Are they making the most of bank feeds, reporting or integrations? Helping clients unlock more value from the software often shifts the conversation from the monthly cost to the benefits they receive.

Price changes are never the easiest conversations, but they're also an opportunity to strengthen client relationships.

By staying informed, communicating early and offering practical advice, bookkeepers can position themselves as knowledgeable partners rather than simply the people who keep the books up to date.

Sometimes it's not the price increase clients remember most, but the support they received when it happened.

Until next time ...
