Sage 50cloud Version 29 was released on 23rd January and we have now installed it at Silicon Bullet in order to get to grips with the new features ...

if you want some help making use of these new features of Sage 50cloud Version 29, why not arrange a hand-holding session with me?

Many of the new features have been added as a result of suggestions from the Sage City Ideas Board which any Sage User can contribute to.

  • Quick Search - This has now been added to many more parts of the software. For example, if you are in an invoice and looking for a product and can't remember the product code, you can now search for a word in the product description. Or when looking for a customer you can search for a contact name or description and not just the account code.

  • Product Record - Product description increased from 60 to 120 characters to give more flexibility. Similarly, the part number field has been increased from 16 to 60 characters.

  • Record Analysis Fields and Email Fields - One of the first differences I noticed was when I went into a customer record there are now 6 possible email fields. In the defaults area, there are now 6 possible custom fields. This gives a lot more flexibility in the information you can keep on a customer or supplier.

  • Batch entry - New 'Gross' column added to batch entry windows to show the total net + VAT value. This is a row-by-row read-only value. I know in the past I used to hit save in batch entry for every receipt just to make sure the gross value was correct, but now I can check this as I go along. This is a read-only column and can't be edited directly.

  • Delivery addresses - You can now add an EORI number to Customer and Supplier delivery addresses.

  • Recurring items - A 'Calc Net' button has been added to recurring items to aid quick net calculations. I often use recurring items for regular direct debits and things like bank charges. The addition of the calc net button will make this much easier to use as I sometimes had to work out the Net/VAT split manually.

  • Internet Explorer removed - Now, this is a big one! Whenever you used to open a web browser from Sage50 it insisted on opening Internet Explorer which hardly anyone really uses anymore. Now, the software opens your default browser.

  • Help Centre - There Is now a bar across the top of every page with links to help pages which you can access at any time and search for help on any aspects of the software you may be struggling with. This opens in a separate window and keeps it on top of the software so you can look for the help you need and keep it on the screen so you can follow the advice found.

  • Company registration number (UK only) - You can now enter HMRC's Company Registration for your company and your customers and suppliers.

  • Online Companies House lookup (UK only) - You can now copy the address details held by Companies House into the record in your software.

As usual, if you want some help making use of these new features and improving the way you use Sage 50cloud then why not arrange a hand-holding session with me to discuss how you use the software?

Until next time ...
