I had an enquiry from the employee of one of the clients I process payroll for in Xero today. They needed their P60 to enable them to do their tax return, but they wanted it in Xero-Me for future reference ...
Getting a P60 into Xero-Me was quite a frustrating process for me! But now I know how to do it!
Now, I can easily download and send it to them from Xero as I process their payroll, but as they use Xero-Me, I thought it should be an easy process to discover how they can access it for themselves.
"However, it wasn't quite as easy as I thought it would be!"
Firstly, as a Xero user who is also a bookkeeper, I have Xero-Me myself, but have never ever looked at it as I can print my own payslips and P60s directly from the payroll. So, it took me ages to work out how I could get it into Xero-me.
Who knew it is just an option at the bottom of the payroll menu in the Xero company you are paid from! If you are an employee and never access Xero, you just log in and it's the only option. If you are a Xero bookkeeper and trainer with access to lots of companies, it is not so easy to spot.
I also downloaded the Xero-me app onto my phone and could see all my payslips there, but P60s are not available through the app ... only through a web browser!
So, finally, after a few searches in the Xero help files, I was able to spot that the employer needs to go to each employee in turn (thank goodness this client only has 10 employees as I would hate to have to do this for 100s) then go to the employee record.
If you then click on the 3 little dots just near the name top left, you will see an option to Share the last relevant P60 ... in this case Share 2022/2023 P60. This should trigger an email to be sent to the employee. They will then be able to download their own P60 from Xero-Me in their browser.
I was just starting to get really frustrated with myself for not being able to do something so simple as viewing my own P60 through Xero-Me. I hope that if you also have this frustration my blog post helps you work out what you need to do.
