If you’re a Xero user, you might have already heard the news that Xero Cashbook is out, and Xero Simple has arrived. But don’t worry, this isn’t one of those “new name, same headaches” kind of changes. In fact, it’s quite the opposite ...

Xero Simple is a thoughtful upgrade designed to give you more tools, better automation, and an easier path to compliance with Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD for IT). And here's the best part – it’s all included at no extra cost.

The subscription remains £7 per month (plus VAT),

As you’re getting a lot more bang for your bookkeeping buck, you're probably wondering what’s actually changing? And how does it help you as a business owner who’d rather spend time doing anything else than battling spreadsheets?

Let’s break it down:

  • MTD for IT ReadyYou don’t need multiple tools or tangled systems anymore. Xero Simple supports everything from data entry to quarterly updates and final submissions — all in one place. Whether you're managing a sole trader setup or juggling rental income on the side, it’s now easier to stay compliant (beta features available subject to eligibility).
  • Bookkeeping on AutopilotBank transactions can now be pulled in automatically from your bank feed or imported with a few clicks. And reconciling those transactions? Let’s just say the AI's got your back. You’ll spend less time on admin and more time doing what you actually enjoy (or at least not dread).
  • Invoicing without the FaffNeed to send out the odd invoice or quote? You can now create up to 10 professional invoices and quotes per month. That’s perfect for smaller operations, side hustles, or anyone who doesn’t need full-scale billing.
  • Snap Receipts on the GoNo more shoeboxes or mystery expenses. The mobile app makes it super easy to snap and store your receipts while you’re out and about. Goodbye, paperwork piles.
  • Better Collaboration With Your BookkeeperYou can now work together more seamlessly inside the system. That means fewer back-and-forth emails, and more proactive help from your bookkeeper when you need it.
  • Simplified Tax and ComplianceAlongside MTD for IT, Xero is bundling tools that simplify compliance across other tax types too, thanks to Xero Tax now being included at no extra cost. If that doesn’t deserve a small victory dance, I don’t know what does.

So what do you need to do now? Honestly? Not much. If you were already using Xero Cashbook, you’ve been automatically upgraded to Xero Simple, and everything you had access to is still there, just with more options.

I feel the move from Xero Cashbook to Xero Simple is a win for small businesses and sole traders who want to stay compliant without overcomplicating their systems. It’s designed to help you stay ahead of the curve (and the taxman) while making day-to-day bookkeeping easier, faster, and far less painful.

If you’ve got questions about Xero Simple, how the MTD changes affect you, or just want to make sure everything’s set up right, I’m here to help you with a handholding session.

You don’t need to tackle this alone.

Until next time ...
